video friday

I haven't posted a Video Friday in forever, but then, I haven't really posted anything to this blog in forever, so why not start back now. Some friends (hi Josh and Theresa!) sent Jesse and I a link to this song, by My Brightest Diamond, in commemoration of our son since the singer, Shara Warden wrote it as a lullaby to her own son. Maybe it's just the postpartum hormones, but it made me cry, so I'm sharing it here.

I do hope to blog more soon. Unfortunately, right now, my main priority is to try to keep Sebastian alive and then to try to string together more than one hour of solid sleep at a time. It has to get easier at some point and then I definitely look forward to returning back to sketching, art making, and blogging more often.

Halloween's coming up in just a couple of days, so this amazing, surreal Fleisher bros. Betty Boop animation featuring the creepiest rendition of Cab Calloway singing Minnie the Moocher is here to help to get you in the mood.

I'm super excited for Halloween - it's one of my favorite holidays. Whether we do much to celebrate it this year will probably just depend on how Hurricane Sandy affects Baltimore over the next two days. Classes were canceled at MICA this morning due to the weather, so I'm thinking it's going to turn into a much needed sketching and cleaning sort of day. Teaching and illustration work has made life so hectic lately I haven't had much time for either in a while. We've got electricity for now and fingers crossed that we keep it the whole time!

p.s. - For an equally bizarre, but wonderful vintage skeleton-themed video, check out this amazing version of the costumed Lennon sisters singing "Dry Bones" on television. You won't regret it!

....in a few weeks! We've got our passports and we booked our flights and hotel, so now we're just getting ready. We're trying to figure out what to do and see, trying to learn a few key phrases through language podcasts (neither of us speaks a lick of french) and trying to figure out what to pack. I'm especially looking forward to visiting to visiting the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay and sketching and photographing everything around us!

We've never been to France and have been trying to make this trip happen for the last four years or so, but life kept getting in the way. We're so excited it's finally happening!

To get myself in the mood, I've started re-watching a lot of my favorite movies set in Paris: Before Sunset, Amelie, Midnight in Paris, Paris Je T'Aime, The 400 Blows and, Cleo from 5 to 7

Also, here are two quick videos about Paris that I've seen recently on the great interwebs that make me want to leave RIGHT NOW. If you have any tips or suggestions for our trip, feel free to share!
