I spotted this oddly beautiful vintage copy of Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge for a couple of dollars at a thrift shop a few weeks back and had to bring it home. The quirky upside-down title on the spine, the striking limited color-palette and the swirling script typography are what sealed the deal for me.
Upon flipping open the book I realized why the design stuck me as so unique - even though the entire book is written in English, it was published in Moscow in 1964! This book has made its way very far from its original home, but I'm happy to give it a new one on my humble bookshelf.
