I hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day. The cynic in me knows that Valentine's Day is just a holiday invented by greeting card companies, but it's still nice to have a day solely devoted to love.
The husband and I always try to keep the holiday low key and fun by making each other cheap little gifts or planning activities that don't involve jostling every other couple in town for the "Valentine's Day special" at busy restaurants. This year, Jesse had the idea to bake pie lollipops together, after we both saw the beautiful ones that luxirare made and then found a recipe for them on instructables.com.We filled ours with blueberry and homemade apple filling and they turned out absolutely delicious. The recipe is a little tedious, but easy to follow and well-worth the time, especially if you have someone to keep you company in the kitchen. I mean, come on, they're bite sized pies that you eat off of sticks - what could be better than that?
And for anyone who spent the holiday not paired up, I hope you still had a fantastic day. Some of my favorite V-Days involved super fun drunken anti-Valentines parties celebrated with all my single friends, so I hope you were able to do the same. And if not, don't worry, your day could have been much worse. Case in point, my sister once broke up with a guy on Valentine's Day.... and I once received Valentine's flowers anonymously, thought they were from the wrong person and ended up accidently hurting not one, but two different innocent boys' feelings on the same day. I felt like the absolute worst person in the world. So, at least you didn't spend the day getting your heart trampled on by terrible people like us. And if you did...then you deserve a pie pop more than anyone else.
